older disappointments

when they knew the stars wouldn't guide them anywhere
when they found out these comets would not grant them their wishes
when they discovered the planets weren't dancing

and then there was gravity
and then came lovely gravity

the skies have stopped talking
their disobedience will never take its toll
now the stars have fallen into a complete silence
the sun hasn't bestowed
neither its benevolence nor violence

the more they feel alive
the more everything else dies
the more they grasp, the more they grow
the more the universe loses its beauty

the more the gods look dumb, deniable and defiable

and then hit gravity
and then it hit
lovely gravity

their scapegoat has vanished
but they don't feel lost
it seems their life goes on, though not the same
they haven't felt it had a cost
but now they don't have anything else to blame

their scapegoat has vanished
now they only have each other to blemish

the firmament no longer houses the fundamental
their downplay will never be paid back
but they do have to face their ultimate decay
the sun will never give back
their spark

and the there is lovely gravity
they understated the gods
but remaind small and lowly
surrounded by their certainty

and they will have no idea
until it becomes an old disappointment
